Gorge Disciplines

Anyone who knows the amazing Columbia Gorge knows that there's no lack of exciting terrain for a multi-sport event!
  • Tough navigation
Navigation is always a component of a Wicked race. Come prepared with the knowledge and basic skills to use your Compass (setting a bearing, taking a bearing, following a bearing), map reading skills (interpretting contour intervals, trails, roads, topographic features, etc.), route selection (determining which route is the "best" route), etc.

The Sport Course always contains "easier" navigation choices, but you will still need to understand basic navigation. If you are unfamiliar with the above concepts, you would be wise to practice navigation by attending some Orienteering events and gaining practical experience.

Pro Course teams - we'll be throwing in a lot more tougher navigation choices and route selection options for you guys.
      Duration: The entire race!
  • Exciting paddling
The Paddling section (both Sport and Pro Course) will be on flat water. There is the potential for high winds, which may create some wave action to deal with. There is no White Water paddling in this race. The Sport Course paddling is somewhat more protected from currents than the Pro Course.
Pro Course Duration: 5 to 10 miles
Sport Course Duration: 3 to 6 miles
  • Up-up-up hill trekking
That says it all! Expect to gain some elevation during the trekking stage. Teams will be both on trails, firelanes, and bushwhacking in this race. NOTE: There will be a fair amount of bushwhacking in this race. The race venue location also has stinging nettles AND Poison Oak. We heartily recommend that you wear something over your legs (tights, or light weight pants, etc...), and if you are prone to Poison Oak, bring Tecnu or other similar products to treat it.
Pro Course Duration: 7 to 14 miles
Sport Course Duration: 5 to 10 miles
  • Wicked mountain biking
We at Wicked Adventure Racing absolutely *love* mountain biking! As such, you'll spend a good deal of time in the saddle. If we can manage it, we'll always include some technical single track. In this race, expect to gain a *lot* of elevation on your bike on Firelanes, and some single track. Sport Course teams will be on Firelanes an Double Track only.
Pro Course Duration: 15 to 30 miles
Sport Course Duration: 8 to 16 miles
  • Thrilling ropes (Pro Course Teams Only)
The "epic" rappel has unfortunately been cancelled. The race location is concerned with the impact of racers getting to the top of the rappel station. We are scouting an alternate location at this time - and we believe the ropes rappel will be between 75 and 200 feet now.

Please NOTE the alterations to the required gear list for this race on the ropes section.

Hope you're out there training hard for this one!
