Praise for the Wicked Gorge Race

We're always really pleased when race participants enjoy their experience. The morning after the Wicked Gorge Race, unsolicited thank you notes started flooding in. Excerpts from some of these are below.

We'd like to heartily thank everyone who participated in the race, and who took the time to drop us a note of appreciation!

Thanks Kathleen (& Shane), I think I can speak for the rest of the team when I say GREAT RACE! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I was stoked to see a new part of Washington and the Gorge I didn't know existed.

I wanted to pass along a Thank You to all the staff/volunteers at Wicked AR for a great race and compliment you on the wonderful hospitality that everyone displayed to my Family. My wife was very complimentary of all the assistance from volunteers to help her and my son move around from Transitions to watch the race, give her time estimations, and make their day enjoyable. That is something I have not seen at a lot of races. Including family in these events is wonderful and truly helps with continuing the growth of the support. We all know if family does not support the racers, it would eventually die. My son had a blast seeing all the race stuff and displays, etc.
Please pass on my appreciation to Cathleen and everyone. Outstanding Job! I hope to see you at the Ocean.

I'll tell you again (now that you've probably had some sleep and can appreciate it more)... the Gorge race was great! We loved the course. It was beautiful (Three Corner Rock is amazing, we want to go back but will hike next time!). I really liked the surprise checkpoint in the kayak section. ... Great work you two!

Hi Shane and Kathleen,

I was very pleased with the course design. ... You definitely delivered and, as Ryan mentioned, we got to discover a new area ... an absolutely wicked area :)

You guys put on a very professional race. Things that I found really well done (not an exhaustive list) in no particular order:
  • Excellent finish area with a strong community feel (food, raffle etc...)
  • By having the race close to Portland, it makes it easy for people to participate
  • By having many categories, you're making it easier for people to try the sport. That's key
  • By having a pro and sport course, you are catering to everyone. I think you've struck a nice balance. Just keep the pro courses hard with a lot of elevation gain and we'll feel that we're being tested. I was certainly beat after the race!
Keep up the good work. We need the sport to grow regionally and you're certainly helping this take shape.

We'll do our best to support you!

We definitely want to do the Ocean race and are currently reviewing our racing calendar to see if that is possible.

On behalf of Team Peak Physique Fitness, thanks again for all the hard work you and all the wonderful volunteers put in to the Wicked Gorge race! We had a blast climbing all 7000 feet of your course and even more fun coming back down! The views when we reached CP8 were just spectacular with Mt Hood commanding the southern flank and Mt Adams standing watch to the north. Good thing we brought our cameras! Those 2 shots of team PPF at CP8 are the best. ...

From this racer's knothole, I thought everything came together extremely well - a testament to your pre-race planning considering the challenging logistics of bin/equipment drops before the race....

We also want to send a big thanks to Next Adventure for supplying the food and more importantly, the beer! As much fun as the race is, it just doesn't compare with knowing there is a nice cold beer waiting for us at the finish line!

Thanks for such a great race in the Gorge. I had never been to the gorge area and so I was looking forward to seeing AR style! The bike leg was brutal but as you said worth the view! Thanks for such a great event and I look forward to your ocean leg finale!
