Classes

The first major choice you will have to make when registering for a Wicked Adventure Sprint Series race is the class you want to compete in. We provide two classes:

  • Pro Class:

This is the premiere class that will carry any prize or purse winnings. The full Pro Course will comprise a 5 to 10 hour race (Wicked Mountain), or 6 to 12 hour race (Wicked Urban and Gorge). At the Wicked Ocean, we'll be using much more aggressive time cut-offs, and the course will be more difficult, so we're projecting a 7 to 10 hour race. Teams not meeting the time cutoffs in the Wicked Ocean will still be allowed to finish on a shortened course. The goal is to slightly lessen the pain and angst for teams at the back of the pack, and to bring all of the teams in closer together for the post race festivities and awards ceremony.

The Pro Course will have a ropes course for each of the races. Teams in the Pro Course will have a much greater Navigational demand placed on them. Navigation will not be easy, and will be a discipline at least equivalent to (if not greater than) any of the other single disciplines (eg MTB, Kayaking, Trekking, etc.). Navigation will be especially tough in the Wicked Ocean race. Because of this, and the very difficult terrain, we will not be allowing first time adventure racers to race solo in this race. If you're a first time racer interested in the Wicked Ocean you can find a team mate (or 3!) from your local AR club.

The Pro Course is designed for teams that have some Adventure Racing experience who are looking for a tough challenge. Teams that do not have any previous Adventure Racing experience but have experience in most of the core disciplines of Adventure Racing will be able to compete as well in this class. The Navigation will not be easy and will be a definitive factor in deciding teams place standings.

  • Sport Class:

The Sport Class will comprise a much shorter race format than the Pro Course: 2 to 5 hours (Wicked Mountain), or 3 to 6 Hours (Wicked Sprint Urban and Gorge). The Wicked Ocean Sport Course will be 4 to 6 hours. Very aggressive time cut-offs will be used in the Wicked Ocean. Teams not meeting the time cutoffs will still be allowed to finish on a shortened course. The goal is to slightly lessen the pain and angst for teams at the back of the pack, and to bring all of the teams in closer together for the post race festivities and awards ceremony.

Navigational requirements will be far easier than in the full Pro Course. However, you will still be required to navigate with your map and compass. No Ropes courses will be provided for Sport Course participants.

The Sport Course is provided for experienced athletes that are new the sport of Adventure Racing, and for Intermediate teams that are looking to race in a shorter format. This is not an easy race, and will require a considerable level of conditioning. No prizes or awards will be given out for the Sport Class, although all race participants are included in the general raffle for great prizes.

Categories

Teams will be allowed to race in any category you choose that include:
  • single, two, three, or four person teams
  • all female team
  • all male team
  • or coed team
Awards or prizes will be offered for 4 Person Coed and/or 3 Person Coed teams only. All race participants will be included in the general raffle for great prizes.

Time cut-offs and requirements

Certain cut-off times and course requirements will be established that teams must make to compete in the either the Pro or Sport Class. Should your team fail to make these requirements, you may be dropped to a shortened course and allowed to finish officially, ranked after all full course teams. However the Race Director may remove teams from the race course under certain conditions if they do not make the cut-offs. Time cut-offs and course requirements will be provided in full detail during the race checkin process.
