Version 5 - last updated March 23, 2005 at 6:20 pm
NOTE: NO XC SKIING SECTION - there will be no XC Skiing section in this race.
NOTE: NO MTB SECTION - Unfortunately we've received over 18 inches of new snow on the MTB section. The good news is the Snowshoeing is going to be exceptional.
A complete gear check will be performed during the race checkin process. You will be required to produce and show proficient use of all required gear. There will be random gear checks (Note 1) during the race. This list may be periodically updated. It is your responsibility to check back here for any changes.
The mandatory gear will be divided into two distinct lists; "general" required gear, and "safety" gear. If any of the gear listed as "safety" gear is missing during the gear checks on the race course, the team will be immediately disqualified from completing the race and will not be considered for official rankings. Required safety gear is marked with a red double asterisk (**) in the below gear list.
Please note that you and your team will be required to carry both the required individual and team gear as appropriate for each section of the race (eg Mountain Biking Individual and Team gear for the Mountain Biking stage). All team members must carry the required individual gear listed as "required for all sections" through all sections of the race. If you or your team has an alternate piece of gear that you believe will fulfill the requirements of something listed here, please email us at
and let us know. But please let us know before the race checkin, otherwise expect to have the exact items we list here.

1:
Random Gear Checks
Count on them. We may even require one team member to dump their pack and show ALL mandatory gear items. We may require all team members to dump their packs. However we do it, we'll do it consistently across all teams. We will be very tough on you if you do not have any of your mandatory gear. Count on that too.
2:
Prusik or Mechanical Backup
A standard sewn sling or Double Fisherman's tied loop will work for a backup. In addition, we will allow mechanical backups like a Petzl Shunt and ISC Rocker. If you are NOT using a Prusik loop, please Contact Us and let us know what you are using. We don't want to surprise you by not allowing your backup device during race check in!
